Esna - Temple of Khnum

Temple of Khnum in Esna - you can see how much below ground level this temple is from the top left of the picture. They had to dig out all the sand it was buried under. Took a picture of these columns as this temple was built by the Romans(?) using an Egyptian style. The columns are of a different style than most temples
Hard to see, but in the middle from left to right you can see some hieroglyphics of the god Khumn on the potters wheel creating a person, and then further across you can see the created person in a sort of womb (middle of pic) Salt damage caused by Nile flooding raising the water table, which the sandstone temple wall suck up. The heat then dries the water and leaves behind the salt you see here. Unfortunately, the lower half of this wall will be gone in 10 years.
Spices in a marketplace outside of the temple of Khnum Here a shot of us hanging out with some fellow Canadians and South African family we met on our cruise. We had a great time hanging out with both families.
